Enugu State branch of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has ordered its members to henceforth reject passengers without face masks.
As of the time of this report, the confirmed cases of coronavirus has risen to 16 in Enugu. The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ikechukwu Obi, said that all the cases in the state had travel histories in violation of interstate transportation ban.
Obi in a statement disclosed that the state had now a total 16 index cases, with eight active and eight discharged cases.
Following this development, the State Chairman of RTEAN, Comrade Chidiebere Aniagu, said that the warning became imperative to protect both the commuters themselves and their members from contracting the contagious disease.
Aniagu said, “after an online meeting of the state executive committee of RTEAN on the spread of COVID- 19 in the country especially now it has entered community transmission face, we resolved that henceforth, our members should not carry commuters that are not wearing face masks in our buses.”
He warned that “any member that violates this directive will have his bus impounded and he will be handed over to security agencies for prosecution.”
